Marcelo Arenas (director of the CIWS) along with Juan Sequeda, PhD student of the University of Texas at Austin, were awarded with the Best Student Research Paper Award at the International Semantic Web Conference 2014 at Riva del Garda (Italy). The awarded work, titled "OBDA: Query Rewriting or Materialization? In Practice, Both!" presents an extension to the Ultrawrap system which now supports ontologies with transitivity using SQL recursion as well as presenting a benchmark for Ontology Based Data Access systems. Until now, there was no existing system that supported such features.
